Automation in the offshore oil and gas industry has been on the rise with sensor-based technologies at the forefront of advancements. AI has replaced humans to increase worker safety and is used to check for rig leaks and to prompt predictive maintenance of machinery. AI analysis has aided the human interpretation of data to find low-grade seismic faults for oil extraction, otherwise invisible to the human eye. Ajay Davessar, founder of Indian AI technologists Matra, speaks to the challenges of working with AI and the correctional technologies that the offshore industry hopes will change the game.
