Snowflake kicked off its annual user conference in Las Vegas, Nevada today with announcements in three main areas. These include enhancements to the Snowflake platform such as a new Document AI functionality, Snowflake versions of Iceberg tables, and a new performance index. Additionally, the company launched a public preview of the Snowflake App Framework, and Snowpark Container Services to widen the types of workloads customers can bring to Snowflake. Document AI is Snowflake’s entry into the large language model and generative AI space, and is based on AI technology obtained with its acquisition of Applica. This allows customers to use AI technologies to interrogate documents loaded into Snowflake, and eventually add support for other types of unstructured data.
