AI is increasingly being used in healthcare, from computer vision tools that can detect suspicious skin lesions to deep learning methods that model electronic health record data to predict health outcomes for patients. There is no doubt that AI will benefit the health system, but there are legitimate concerns about the accuracy of such tools. To use AI effectively in healthcare, it is necessary to collect evidence that AI tools are “medical grade” before they are used on patients.
