AI has come a long way since its inception, and the development can be broadly divided into several eras. From Turing’s Test to AlphaGo’s victory, this article explores the significant moments that have shaped AI’s development and its influence today. The 1950s saw the birth of AI, followed by the Dartmouth Workshop in 1956, which coined the term “Artificial Intelligence”. The 1960s saw the development of the first AI chatbot and expert systems, followed by a period of disappointment and cuts in funding in the 1970s. The 1980s saw a revival with the rise of machine learning, followed by the emergence of the internet in the 1990s and the development of big data and deep learning algorithms in the 2000s. Today, AI is being used to solve problems in many fields, from healthcare to finance to agriculture.
