Anastasios Kyrillidis, Rice University’s Noah Harding Assistant Professor of Computer Science, has been awarded an Amazon Research Award (ARA) to research efficient and affordable transformers for distributed platforms. Transformers are deep learning models used in natural language processing and computer vision that are expensive in both time and memory, limiting their utility for commercial and consumer applications. Kyrillidis is exploring whether intermediate solutions exist that are both effective and affordable.
