Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai recently announced the merging of the company’s two advanced A.I. research labs, Google Brain and DeepMind, into a new unit called Google DeepMind. This move is a logical one for Google, as it is in an unexpected and potentially existential struggle with Microsoft to infuse cutting-edge generative A.I. into its product offerings the fastest. DeepMind was acquired by Google in 2014 for a reported $650 million, and Google co-founder Larry Page was the driving force behind the purchase.
