DeepMind, an artificial intelligence (AI) company acquired by Google in 2014, is merging with Google’s Brain team to form Google DeepMind. DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis will lead this new collaboration, which is intended to create a general-purpose AI system and accelerate Google’s AI progress. Google Brain is a deep learning AI research team under Google AI founded in 2011, and has developed tools such as TensorFlow and conducted several in-house AI research projects. The merger of DeepMind and Google Brain will further strengthen Google’s AI research and development capabilities.
