Deep Learning Model Improves Copd Risk Prediction And Gene Discovery

This article discusses the development of a deep learning model to predict COPD status from whole spirograms included in the UK Biobank medical record database. The model accurately distinguishes COPD cases from controls and predicts COPD-related hospitalization. The model is based on the hypothesis that spirograms contain additional information not captured by summary metrics and fixed diagnostic cutoffs.
