Researchers at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory have developed AtomAI, a machine-learning inspired software package that provides end-to-end image analysis of electron and scanning probe microscopy images. AtomAI applies deep learning to microscopy data at atomic resolutions, allowing researchers to quickly derive statistically meaningful information from complex datasets. This improvement to data analysis can be used to gain deeper insights into the materials’ physical and chemical qualities, and to engineer quantum atomically precise abnormalities in materials.
