Ben Geortzel has been working on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) for decades and has led funded AI companies in the pursuit of this goal. This article provides an overview of the field of AGI, discussing the relation between formal theory, conceptual theory and experimentation in AI. It also examines the range of AGI approaches, from starting with a general theory and deriving practical systems from it, to using weak analogies to biology to develop formal theory and then practical examples.
