A solar-powered tool using computer vision and machine learning to detect crop pests and diseases has won the 2020 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation. The device, created by Esther Gacicio, is an affordable alternative to traditional detection methods and aims to empower smallholder farmers in Africa. The Royal Academy of Engineering also hosted an alumni reunion to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Prize, showcasing the strength of the community united by the Prize.
