UC Santa Barbara doctoral student Satish Kumar has been chosen as a 2024 Schmidt Science Fellow for his interdisciplinary research in computer vision and machine learning to mitigate global pollution. He has also developed an AI-based tool, MethaneMapper, which uses hyperspectral imaging to detect specific gases and could revolutionize pollution monitoring.
