Amazon’s Johari is a technology tool developed to reduce wastage of fresh fruits and vegetables in warehouses and retail outlets. It utilizes computer vision models and Wi-Fi-enabled IoT cameras to identify pre-determined defects such as cuts, cracks, and damages in fresh produce. The government of India is considering the use of this technology for a pilot project at select Safal stores owned by Mother Dairy in Delhi and Bengaluru. A closed-door meeting between officials from NITI Aayog and Amazon was held to discuss the effectiveness of Johari. Rajeev Rastogi, Vice President of Machine Learning at Amazon, confirmed the meeting to explore the deployment of Johari in government-owned centers.
