This article discusses the use of computer vision technology to enable robots to perform everyday chores on farms, such as harvesting ripe fruits or destroying crop-withering weeds. A new study in Science Robotics aims to boost navigational skills in robots by giving them memory, inspired by the navigational skills of ants. The team developed an algorithm based on brain processes in ants during navigation, which was run on hardware mimicking the brain’s computations. This method triumphed over a state-of-the-art computer vision system in navigation tasks.
