This week, researchers at Northwestern University used computer simulations to model galaxy formation after the Big Bang and demonstrate that stars formed in bursts, producing light of enormously greater intensity than a modern galaxy. Additionally, researchers at Singapore University of Technology and Design used reinforcement learning to train a system to play the 1987 arcade game Street Fighter. This research shows the potential of AI to beat skilled human players in a variety of competitive endeavors.
