Oppo is investing in AI research, including the development of its own large language model (LLM) named AndesGPT. The Chinese smartphone maker is actively investing in generative AI and is exploring multi-modal models and computer vision technologies that could be applied to its products. Oppo is looking to solve the computing power challenges needed to run LLMs locally on a mobile phone, instead of the need for an internet connection to access the cloud.
