Dr Amir Atapour-Abarghouei is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Durham University in the UK. His research focuses on computer vision and scene understanding, using AI and machine learning technologies. His current research explores the realm of machine vision and cognition, and involves removing algorithmic bias from automated skin lesion classification systems. He is also working on a task of monocular depth estimation, which involves estimating how far the objects in an image are from the camera by predicting a depth value for each pixel, given a single RGB image. To solve this problem, he is using the popular video game Grand Theft Auto V as a source of nearly photorealistic synthetic images.
