AMP Robotics uses AI and advanced technology to sort through recycling to ensure that recyclable materials don’t end up in landfills. Carling Spelhaug, Corporate Communications Director at AMP Robotics, told us in this week’s Net Hero Podcast that the recycling rate in America is only 32%, and they have the ambitious goal of reaching 50% by 2030. AMP Robotics’ system helps cut down on the amount of recyclables that end up in landfills or incinerated by using computer vision and deep learning to automate the sorting process of mixed material streams. The system uses a camera to take pictures of items moving past on a conveyor belt and then uses a database of recyclable materials to infer in real time what is a contaminant and what is recyclable.
