Nvidia, a tech company headquartered in Santa Clara, California, has become the first chipmaker to have a market worth of more than USD1 trillion, making it the most valuable tech corporation in the United States. This success is largely attributed to their graphic processing units (GPUs) which are regarded as the finest in the industry for running AI models. Nvidia’s GPU chips are powering OpenAI, the world’s most disruptive AI firm, which unveiled the chatbot ChatGPT in November 2022. Nvidia has prioritised computer graphics and gaming, and their CUDA software, which only operates on Nvidia hardware and networking features, has been a key factor in their success. With the shift away from personal computers, laptops, and desktops and towards data centres, GPU sales have increased to 50% of data centre chip sales, up from 5%-10% five years ago.
