Researchers from MIT and Rice University have developed a computer vision technique that uses reflections to turn glossy objects into “cameras,” allowing a user to see the world from the perspective of everyday objects like a ceramic coffee mug or a metallic paper weight. This technique enables a user to see around corners or beyond obstructions, and uses images of an object taken from different angles to convert the surface of that object into a virtual sensor which captures reflections.
