Prof. Stefan Leutenegger is researching a new approach to Artificial Intelligence, called ‘spatial AI’, which enables drones to perceive their surroundings in three dimensions and recognize potential danger. This is accomplished by using neural networks to learn to recognize 3D objects in space and by using computer vision and depth cameras to gain a sense of depth. Prof. Leutenegger is currently using spatial AI in three research projects.
