Computer vision is a field of artificial intelligence that enables computers and systems to derive meaningful information from digital images, videos and other visual inputs. In 2020, the worldwide market for computer vision was worth $11.32 billion and projected to grow at a rate of 7.3% annually from 2021 to 2028. With advancements in AI innovation in disciplines of deep learning and neural networks, the scope of computer vision will only grow further. However, there are still challenges to be addressed, such as fairness and bias in facial recognition, object detection, and autonomous driving. Organisations and people must take the initiative in utilising computer vision and facial recognition in an ethical and responsible manner until governmental bodies are able to effectively regulate these developing technologies.
