Alex Hawkhead recently asked a generative AI tool to provide her with an image of a woman, in a garden, eating a banana. The results were far from satisfactory, with the woman not having peeled the banana, misshapen hands and limbs, and a strange cave setting. This experience has led Hawkhead to believe that AI is not yet a threat to tech workers’ jobs. In the last few months, she has seen generative AI tools appear that mimic many of the design skills she and her colleagues have spent years developing, such as Galileo.ai, which allows users to create app pages based on simple text prompts.
