This plan has been met with criticism from Railroad Workers United (RWU), who have called for comprehensive legislation and robust action from regulators to ensure rail workers and communities are kept safe. Rail workers have predicted an increased reliance on automation, which RWU co-chair Gabe Christenson has stated must be accompanied by proper and adequate maintenance and inspection of rail cars and locomotives, track, signals, and other infrastructure.
