M3GAN is a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s companion and a parent’s ally. It was designed by roboticist Gemma and can listen, watch, and learn as it becomes a friend and teacher, playmate, and protector for the child it is bonded to. When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her 8-year-old niece, Cady, she is unsure and scared, but M3GAN helps her to become a better parent. The film explores the ethical implications of AI and robotics, as well as the potential for AI to be a force for good.
