Psychologists are exploring the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) applications for mental health, such as chatbots, apps, and virtual reality. This new generation of digital tools can be divided into two forms: digital interventions and AI-assisted practices. Digital phenotyping, which examines a client’s digital footprint from their smartphone and wearable devices, is being used to gain insights into their behaviour and improve diagnostic processes and individual treatment plans. AI-assisted practices can also help psychologists to detect patterns and triggers that may not be so easily apparent in traditional talk therapy.
