The South African government is deploying over 800 members of the SANDF to Eskom power stations to try and safeguard them against crime and sabotage. However, load-shedding continues unabated. A potential solution to this problem could lie in the use of computer vision technology, which is already being widely used in the manufacturing industry for security and other purposes. Computer vision technology is defined as a field of computer science that focuses on enabling computers to identify and understand objects and people in images and videos. It has the potential to automate tasks that may be difficult for humans to monitor at all times, as well as to pick up on potential problems in a process.
