Toyota Motor Corp. recently reported that the vehicle data of about 2.15 million users was left publicly available in Japan for about a decade due to a setting error in the cloud environment. The leaked data could include vehicle locations and identification numbers of vehicle devices, but there were no reports of malicious use. Toyota apologized for causing concern and is introducing systems to audit and monitor cloud settings continuously, as well as investigating and educating employees about data handling rules. Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission has been informed about the incident.
