A new study conducted by ComboCloud has successfully developed retrieval algorithms for cloud microphysical properties from the synergy of microwave and infrared measurements. The study has also quantitatively evaluated the benefits of the MW-IR synergy with respect to MW-only and IR-only, and the future sensors (MWS and IASI-NG) with respect to current ones (AMSU/MHS and IASI).
