As network traffic continues to grow due to higher bandwidth applications such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), data center networks are struggling to keep up with the increasing demands. To address this issue, Cisco has introduced new switch and optics semiconductors that double the speed and power of the host to pluggable optics electrical interface every two to three years. This technology will help data centers continue to scale as well as provide higher resolution video streaming, virtual reality and other applications.
