China has reportedly used AI to simulate its island-building activities in the South China Sea, which could bolster its maritime claims in the disputed region. The simulation, which was published in the Chinese peer-reviewed journal Operations Research and Management Science, could cover 17 to 80 features in the Spratly and Paracel Islands. This move has raised concerns of an AI arms race in the region as tensions between China and other countries remain high.
