The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently held a public hearing in Washington to discuss the potential risks of discrimination posed by the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the workplace. The hearing aimed to educate employers, workers, and other stakeholders about the civil rights implications of using automated systems to make decisions regarding hiring, firing, promotions and pay. EEOC Chair Charlotte A. Burrows believes that the Commission can take steps to prevent and eliminate unlawful bias in employers’ use of these technologies.
