This article discusses the heritability of left atrial (LA) structure and function and its association with atrial fibrillation (AF), stroke, and heart failure. The study, conducted using data from UK Biobank, All of Us, and FinnGen, found that genetic predictors of LA volume are linked to an elevated risk of AF, stroke, and heart failure. The study also highlights the importance of understanding the genetic basis of LA structure and function in order to better predict and prevent these cardiovascular diseases.
