A team of scientists has developed a fully autonomous ultrasound robot that can perform high-quality scans and identify malignant nodules without human assistance. The system, called FARUS, uses artificial intelligence and physical force feedback to achieve results close to that of human doctors. Further clinical studies are needed to assess the robot’s safety as a screening tool for malignancies.
