This article discusses the importance of early detection of sepsis and the challenges in comparing predictive models due to discrepancies in the definition of sepsis onset. The study compares the performance of different models using three different interpretations of sepsis onset from the sepsis-III definition. Results show that model performance can be more sensitive to differences in the definition of sepsis onset than to the model itself, highlighting the need for a standardized definition for sepsis onset.
