CENSIS has developed an AI powered device that uses machine learning to monitor the use of household appliances and electrical items in order to identify when older or vulnerable people living alone may need immediate medical support. The device has been trialled in 19 households and can send automated alerts to nominated contacts if any anomalies are detected. The University of Edinburgh has built a library of power signatures to identify which appliances are being used and when.
