IIT-Kharagpur has launched a cloud-based bicycle-sharing system on its campus, featuring GPS location tracking, theft detection, and energy-efficient hardware design. The system, funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, uses a smart electro-mechanical IOT module for locking bicycles and can be set up by individuals without specialized equipment. The institute plans to make the system available at a minor charge, promoting entrepreneurship and non-polluting transportation.
