Ericsson experts have developed an AI-based recommendation engine that can identify optimization areas to reduce RAN energy use by up to 12 percent annually. This engine generates energy-efficient configuration settings for network nodes, helping cellular operators reduce their energy bill which accounts for 5-7 percent of their operating expenditure. As more countries move to 5G, the need for more sites may negate some of the gains obtained via energy efficiency, making the AI-based recommendation engine even more important.
