Aylin Caliskan, one of the 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics, discussed her work on bias in generative AI tools at the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI 2023). She explained how generative AI tools have become more prevalent and easier to use, but that they can perpetuate representational harms and shape human cognition and society. She highlighted the need to understand the impact of generative AI models on a global and individual scale, and the importance of accurate data from underrepresented groups.
