Researchers from SLAC, Stanford, MIT, and Toyota Research Institute have used machine learning to analyze X-ray movies of lithium ions flowing in and out of battery electrode nanoparticles. This analysis allows for the extraction of pixel-by-pixel information about the particles’ behavior, which can help to improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries.
