Character.AI, a rapidly expanding startup specialising in artificial intelligence chatbots, is reportedly in discussions with Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, for a potential investment of hundreds of millions of dollars. Founded by former Google employees, Character.AI enables users to engage in conversations with virtual representations of celebrities or create their own chatbots and AI assistants. The platform has resonated particularly well with the 18 to 24 age group, constituting approximately 60 per cent of the website’s traffic, and reported 100 million monthly visits to its website in the first six months since its launch.
