Baidu unveiled its artificial intelligence-powered chatbot Ernie Bot on Thursday, but disappointed investors with its use of pre-recorded videos and the lack of a public launch. Ernie Bot is based off Baidu’s AI-driven deep learning model, Ernie, and is limited to a trial group of users with invitation codes. Baidu’s Hong Kong shares tumbled as much as 10% after the presentation, which showcased Ernie’s ability to carry out mathematical calculations, speak in Chinese dialects and generate video and images with text prompts.
