A new study by researchers from New York University Abu Dhabi explores the implications of ChatGPT, a type of AI model, for education. The study analyses the dynamics underlying student perceptions of ChatGPT’s usefulness and sheds light on the concerns raised by educators over the increased probability of plagiarism. ChatGPT is a type of AI model that uses ‘generative pre-trained transformers’ and ‘transfer learning’ principles to generate coherent text that is relevant to the context in question. The study incorporates ChatGPT’s answers to a selection of diverse questions, and finds that the AI outperforms students in exams.
