In a pilot study conducted by researchers from the Jeroen Bosch Hospital in the Netherlands, an artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT, was found to be as effective as trained doctors in suggesting likely diagnoses for patients being assessed in emergency medicine departments. The study found that the chatbot had the correct diagnosis within its top five likely diagnoses in 97% of cases, compared to 87% for doctors. Further research is needed to determine how the technology could be used to support doctors working in emergency medicine.
