Chatbot software has been around for decades, but its application in the enterprise has been gaining traction due to the rise of generative AI. The first chatbot was developed in 1966 at MIT, called ELIZA, which answered simple decision tree questions. Since then, chatbot technology has evolved and is now being used across social and business channels. This is due to the opening up of APIs by social media platforms, as well as the chatbot’s ability to sense and recognize user intent.
