Mark Walters, a host on Armed America Radio, is suing OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT, for defamation after the chatbot generated false and allegedly malicious statements about him. The misinformation was first uncovered by journalist Fred Riehl, who asked ChatGPT to summarize a complaint that the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) filed in federal court. ChatGPT disregarded the facts of the case and generated a response falsely claiming that the case was filed against Walters for embezzlement that never happened. Walters’ complaint said that every statement of fact in ChatGPT’s summary pertaining to him is false.
