ChatGPT, an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, has gained immense popularity since its launch in November 2022. Initially running on OpenAI’s model GPT-3.5, the chatbot was soon being used for various tasks such as writing essays, giving content creation ideas, simplifying complex information, and composing poetry. OpenAI’s privacy policy states that the company collects personal information such as name, email address, and payment information when necessary for business purposes. Recently, the chat-saving feature can be turned off, however, concerns around the AI tool collecting user data are still present. Italy has already banned ChatGPT over privacy concerns and Japan’s privacy watchdog has issued a warning to OpenAI over data privacy. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, met Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April to discuss regulating AI.
