Researchers at TU Delft and EPFL have explored the potential of AI tools like ChatGPT to aid in the robotics design process. Their case study, published in Nature Machine Intelligence, involved building a tomato-harvesting robot and using ChatGPT to help with various design decisions. The team was pleased to find that ChatGPT was able to recommend useful solutions, demonstrating its potential to be a useful sounding board for stimulating and accelerating human creativity. However, they are not convinced that AI can replace humans anytime soon.
