A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine compared physician and artificial intelligence chatbot responses to patient questions. Prof Martyn Thomas and Prof Maria Liakata discussed the results of the study, with Prof Thomas noting that the results should not be assumed to apply to other questions and Prof Liakata noting that the question of which response is better is rather vague. Both experts concluded that ChatGPT has no medical quality control or accountability and that patients should call NHS 111, see their doctor or a pharmacist, or look at a reputable medical website for advice.
