Two new papers have been published this month that deployed the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT in market-relevant tasks. The papers tested the chatbot’s ability to decipher whether Federal Reserve statements were hawkish or dovish, and to determine whether headlines were good or bad for a stock. The results suggest that the technology developed by OpenAI is capable of parsing nuance and context, and that the hype surrounding the technology is justified.
